Why it is easier to tell a stranger
Telling a friend costs something. They have a stake in your life, they will worry, they will check in about it in two weeks, and part of you is already managing their reaction while you are still talking.
A stranger has no stake. They do not know your partner, your manager, or your mother. There is no history to update and no relationship to protect. That is not a lesser kind of listening — for a lot of things, it is the only kind that lets you be honest.
You get a random alias. They get a random alias. Nobody is building a picture of you.

What this is good for
It is 2am and you are the only one awake. A shift ended badly. Something happened that is too small to call someone about and too big to just sit with. You moved somewhere new and have not made friends yet. You are fine, mostly, and would just like to say some words to a person.
It is not good for everything, and the next section is honest about which things.
Finding someone to talk to
Looking for a person first. If no one's around, a labeled AI companion will join.
A person, or an AI that says it is one
If you are an eligible adult in a region where human matching is available, you can wait for another person who also wants to talk. Availability changes with current traffic and safety controls, so a human match is never promised.
When a person is not available, you are offered a clearly labelled AI companion instead. It carries a permanent AI badge and will tell you it is an AI if you ask. Eligible users can decline that option and wait; people who are not eligible for human matching stay on the AI route.

This is not therapy, and it is not a crisis line
We want to be extremely clear, because the difference matters. Nobody here is a trained counsellor, a therapist, or a crisis responder. This is a conversation with a stranger or with an AI. It can genuinely help you feel less alone. It cannot treat anything, and it is not a substitute for care from someone qualified.

Is it really anonymous?
Yes. No email, no phone number, no name and no camera. You are given a random alias. The person you talk to sees the alias and your messages — nothing else about you.
Does it cost anything?
No. Talking is free and there is no signup or trial timer. Human matching, where available, does not require a paid plan.
Will the other person remember me?
Only if you both want them to. By default each conversation stands on its own, and you can end it and never be matched with that person again.
Can I talk to an AI instead of a person?
Yes, and some people prefer it — it is available immediately, it does not get tired, and it will not judge you. It is labelled as an AI at all times and will never claim to be human.
Is this counselling or therapy?
No. It is a conversation with a stranger or an AI companion. No one here is trained or qualified, and nothing said is clinical advice. For therapy, see a licensed professional; for a crisis, contact a crisis line.
How old do you have to be?
13+ for the AI companion, and 18+ for human matching where it is available. Under-13s cannot use the product.
